The International Quality Indicator Project®
(IQIP) serves as a tool to assist healthcare organizations identify
opportunities for improvement in patient care. The IQIP develops performance
indicators that facilitate participants' efforts to understand and improve
performance.
IQIP participants receive quarterly data reports, which allow for longitudinal
trending and comparison to national, regional, and international aggregate
rates. In addition, the IQIP offers custom reporting capabilities to provide
comparisons with more narrowly user-defined peer groups.
The motivating factor behind the IQIP is not the data, but discovering the "why"
behind the data. The IQIP's aim is to develop educational materials, conduct
user groups and educational sessions in the field, learn from the efforts of
IQIP participants to understand and put their data to work, and assist in
participants' benchmarking and networking activities. Developed over fifteen
years ago in the United States, and currently used by over 1,600 American
healthcare organizations, the QI Project's® adaptable tools, analytical
methods, and educational materials have been proven to be applicable to
healthcare settings outside of the United States.
As the international sponsor for the QI Project®, The
Center for Performance Sciences provides organizations outside of the
United States with the ability to participate in this influential initiative.
Currently, nearly 180 acute care hospitals,
psychiatric hospitals, long term care facilities, and home care agencies
in 12 countries participate in the IQIP. To assist international
participants with issues of data collection, interpretation, and beneficial
usage of the results, Center for Performance Sciences provides individualized
educational and consulting services. An international coordinator with a
clinical and research background is available to all IQIP participants for
on-site training, programmatic assistance, and support in using the IQIP data
effectively for quality improvement.
